Fall Fresh Start – Wednesdays at Central
It has become evident that our previous schedule of Wednesday events is less than ideal for families with children and youth as well as for working adults. Because we are primarily a church whose members drive 15 to 30 minutes to get here, families need time after 5 p.m. to go from their place of business to pick-up the kids from daycare or from home (or “practice”), before heading to church for family dinner and other activities. For several weeks the staff has been developing a plan to make these worthwhile mid-week activities more accessible to families. We hope each of you will resolve to be a part of our “Fall Fresh Start” scheduled to begin Wednesday, August 20. Here’s the plan, so far…
5:15-5:40 – Community Prayers and Announcements
5:45-6:15 – Serving Dinner – School Age Kids Eat Free
6:15 – 7:15 – Lifetree Cafe
6:30-7:30 – Wednesday Activities (Each Month) – Nursery Available for Preschoolers
1st Wednesday– Bible Study + Youth Group & Shine
2nd Wednesday– Hymn Sing + Youth Group & Shine
3rd Wednesday– Bible Study + Youth Group & Shine
4th Wednesday– Special Fellowship Activities – ALL Ages Together
5th Wednesday– Movie Night (slightly longer meeting time)- All Ages
This NEW plan has lots of benefits. Perhaps you noticed that we really want to provide “FREE” dinner for all kids through high school. This can help families by removing barriers to their participation: both the physical time required to prepare a hot meal and the financial burden of a meal away from home!
Some churches have outright abandoned their mid-week activities. However, we still believe that Wednesday gatherings can be a productive, energizing time. But we need help. We need folks who will commit to a regular donation to cover the cost of kids’meals; we need a cook, and someone to coordinate the volunteers who help serve the dinner and clean-up. We need youth group leaders and leaders for Shine! (kids’ art and music activity) and partners who will commit to pray for our families and their kids as well as for the overall success of Wednesdays at Central. Come! And get involved!!
