Central’s mission team is taking 70 kids on an “expedition” to Everest (Group Publishing vacation Bible school curriculum). This year’s team of 11 volunteers and 1 ministerial staff are having a fruitful week serving at-risk inner-city children who come to Touching Miami w/Love’s Homestead community ministry center for safety and learning. 4 teens, Connor Case, Michael Penny, Jordan Penny and Parker Penny are serving alongside adult leaders Ruth Bethea, Lee Gallman, Patty and Mike O’Sullivan, Jerry and Joanne Penny, and Linda Pigott. Five on the team are participating in a mission trip for the first time! They are leading a five day all-day bible school event that focuses on God’s power to provide, comfort, heal and forgive. Using Bible stories, craft activities, music, recreation, and an introduction to the game of golf Central’s ministry team are sharing the love of Christ with boys and girls, kindergarten through 5th grade and other student volunteers and employees at the center. God is working through them as they strive to become fully immersed in the culture and learn as much as they can about the issues surrounding this impoverished community they are serving. On Tuesday morning the team prayed about families in the community affected by a nearby shooting the night before and also for former participants now living in Canada who are seeking citizenship there. Friday, weather permitting, the children and ministry team will walk 6 blocks to swim at the community swimming pool. After distributing bags of toiletries and other surprises to the children and staff, the team will return home and share stories of hope and helping with the Central family.
