What is Tenebrae?

Tenebrae is a service designed to help us grasp the sorrow and horror of Jesus’ last hours.  It is called a “service of shadows.”  As we reflect on the final events leading to Jesus’ death, the sanctuary will grow darker and darker, making it a challenge to see around you.  This parallels the way in which the earth grew dark as Jesus drew his last breaths.  The service is composed primarily of silence and scripture reading to help us reflect on our lives and the work of God in Christ on our behalf.

At the close of the service, we will be asked to contemplate in silence on the significance of the Scriptures, and then, depart in silence.

The service will be in the main sanctuary at 2:00 p.m., Friday March 30, 2018.
